A generous donation from the Philadelphia Ukrainian Hutsul Society Cheremosh Last year, members of the Philadelphia Ukrainian Hutsul Society Cheremosh approached the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center in Philadelphia with a proposal to make a donation to the Center. During the years of its existence, the Society amassed a considerable amount of money and wanted to make a donation to the UECC, given that the Society would be disbanding. When the Center was acquired by the community in the outskirts of Philadelphia back in 1980, Cheremosh was one of the first tenants of the Center as it was home to their dance group. Cheremosh wanted to donate $ 80,000.00 dollars to a project they thought had long been overdue to be completed, namely the restoration of the Club room off of the Borys Zacharczuk Grand Hall and the main kitchen. A committee was formed for this project, consisting of Larysa Krywusha, Natalka Firko, Xenia and Danylo Zacharczuk, Luba Kalyta, Irena Galai, Mykhaylo Danylovich and architect Zoltan Toth. In March of 2017, the committee presented a three phase reconstruction plan to the UECC Board of Directors. In April, the same plans were presented to the Cheremosh Society members – Michael Luciw, Wasyl Panczak, George Fedorijczuk, Yaroslaw Fedorjczuk, Anna Makuch, Roksolana Luciw, Larissa Steblij, Ulana Prociuk, and Yolanta Fedorijczuk, who were very impressed with the possibilities for this room and unanimously agreed to support the first phase of the project. On October 21, 2017, representatives of the UECC and the Hutsul Society Cheremosh signed an agreement to restore the club room and the future renaming of the Club Room to the Cheremosh Room. The UECC Board is very happy about the new prospectus of this room, which will be in Hutsul style. The UECC Board of Directors cordially thanks the Philadelphia Ukrainian Hutsul Society Cheremosh for their generous donation of $ 80,000.00 dollars, which testifies to their support of the Ukrainian community in Philadelphia and the Center itself. The members of the UECC Board encourage individual donors and other organizations in and around the Philadelphia area to follow the example of Cheremosh and the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union, which give credence to the needs of the UECC and help support all our projects in the Ukrainian community. The Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center, founded in 1980, is a nonprofit organization that maintains and disseminates knowledge about Ukraine and Ukrainian culture in Philadelphia and the suburbs.
